💱 How to Enable Cryptocurrency Payments
ClickBid supports Crypto payments through Stripe for eligible U.S. organizations. This article explains how Crypto payments work, how to enable or disable them, where donors will see the option, and what to expect during setup.
⚙️ Enabling Crypto Payments in Event Settings
Crypto payments are controlled at the event level, giving you full flexibility.
To manage Crypto payments:
- Go to Software Settings > Auction Settings > Payment.
- Locate the Enable Crypto Payments dropdown.
- Toggle Enable Crypto to On or Off, depending on your preference.

Cryptocurrency payments is OFF by default.

Crypto is available to U.S. based Stripe accounts only.

You are not required to enable Crypto.

If you start the process and decide not to continue, you can turn it off at any time.

Crypto is enabled as a wallet payment method and appears alongside cards and other wallets during checkout when fully approved.
🧾 Merchant Account Status: Stripe Crypto
Once Crypto is enabled, you can track its setup progress from your Merchant Account page.
For U.S. accounts, you’ll see a new status labeled Stripe Crypto, displayed above Payouts:
- Disabled: Crypto is turned off
- Pending: Additional Stripe requirements must be completed
- Enabled: Crypto is fully active and available to donors

If your status shows Pending, Stripe is waiting for the required compliance or verification information before this method can be used.
🪙 Where Donors Can Use Crypto
When fully enabled, Crypto may appear as a payment option in these areas:
- Bidder self-checkout
- Ticket page checkout
- Text to Give (TTG)
- One-time online donations

🚫 Important Crypto Limitations
Crypto payments currently have some restrictions:
- ❌ Cannot be saved as a card on file
- If an event requires a credit card on file, a credit card will still need to be added. However, checkout can still be completed using Crypto.

- ❌ Not supported for recurring donations
- ❌ Not supported for subscriptions
- ❌ Not available during setup of a saved payment method
If a donor selects Crypto, it will only be used for that single transaction and will not be stored for future purchases.
🔐 Stripe Approval & Compliance Requirements
Enabling Crypto involves additional approval steps required by Stripe.
Here’s what happens behind the scenes:
- ClickBid requests Crypto payment capabilities for your Stripe account.
- Stripe may require:
- Additional business or compliance details
- Acceptance of Crypto-specific terms
- Until all requirements are completed, Crypto remains Pending and cannot be used.
Turning Crypto on in ClickBid does not automatically make it available to donors, Stripe approval must be completed first.
🔁 Refunds & Payment Handling
- Refunds:
- Handled the same way as standard card payments
- The refund will be deducted from the connected account in USD and go back as stablecoin to the purchaser’s crypto wallet.
- Reporting:
- Crypto transactions appear alongside other payments once enabled
- Payouts:
- Follow normal Stripe payout timelines
- Payouts are in USD, not in crypto
- Disputes:
- Are not allowed when paying with cypto
- If the purchaser has an issue with their transaction, they will need to contact the organization that who received the funds.
