🧾 Adding Tax to Items
Add sales tax to your ClickBid auction to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with local regulations. This guide walks you through enabling tax settings and applying tax to specific items.
🛠️ Step 1: Enable Sales Tax in Your Auction Settings
-
Click Software Settings from the left menu.
-
Select Auction Settings.
-
Go to the Payment tab.
-
Find the Sales Tax field and enter your tax percentage (e.g., 6).
- In the Tax Calculation dropdown, choose your preferred method:
- FMV: Tax is calculated only up to the fair market value of the item. Any amount paid above FMV is not taxed.
- Full Purchase Price: Tax is calculated on the total amount paid, regardless of FMV.
ℹ️ Not sure which tax calculation method to use? Check with your organization's accountant or consult your state's nonprofit tax regulations.
🛍️ Step 2: Apply Tax to Specific Auction Items
-
Click Items in the left menu.
-
Select Manage Items.
-
Check the box next to each item that should be taxed.
-
Scroll down to the Batch Update section.
-
Under the Taxable dropdown, select Yes.
-
Click the Update button and confirm.
If you have an item package and want to charge a portion of your item as taxable, click into the item and use the Calculate Appropriate Tax Rate to set the rate based on the FMV of the portion of the item that is taxable.
⚠️ A Few Things to Know
- Tax settings apply at checkout and will appear on bidder receipts and statements.
- If the Sales Tax field in Auction Settings is left blank, no tax will be calculated even if items are marked as taxable.
- You can override the tax rate on individual items by editing the item and entering a custom Item Tax Rate, this rate cannot exceed what's set in Auction Settings.
⚠️ Always confirm your tax rate is saved in Auction Settings > Payment before your event goes live. Items marked as taxable will not calculate correctly without a rate entered.
✅ Confirmation
Tax settings are now active and applied to your selected items. All taxable purchases will reflect these settings at checkout and on bidder receipts.
